Basant: Everything You Need to Know About Lahore's Kite Festival

Basant is a Punjabi spring tradition with roots going back generations, centered on Lahore — though its modern history hasn't been simple. Metal-coated and glass-coated kite line caused real injuries in past decades, leading to restrictions and, at times, outright bans on kite-flying in the city.
The Basant Destiny Skies runs is built around the safer, standard-line version of the tradition — the one worth experiencing is the atmosphere, not a risk to manage. Rooftops fill with families, dhol drummers keep the rhythm going for hours, and for one day the entire city's attention genuinely turns upward.
Rather than joining a crowded public ground, this trip is built around a small number of private, vetted rooftops arranged with local host families in advance, paired with time in Lahore's Walled City and food streets — since most travelers making the trip to Pakistan want more of Lahore than a single afternoon on a roof.
Practically: expect a full day on your feet and on rooftops, dress you don't mind getting dusty, and a safety briefing on line-handling before the festival day itself — standard cotton line only, on every rooftop we work with.
